Tail Risk

Tail risk is the risk of rare, extreme price moves in the far ends (tails) of the return distribution — low-probability events with outsized impact. Financial markets have "fat tails," so such moves happen more often than a normal distribution predicts, which is why measures like CVaR capture them better than VaR alone.
