Mean Reversion

Mean reversion is the assumption that after a strong move away from its average (e.g. a moving average or the middle Bollinger Band), price tends to drift back toward that average. Such strategies look for entries when price touches an outer band or reaches an extreme, betting on a pullback to the middle. It works best in range-bound markets and breaks down in strong trends, when price can "walk the band" for a long time.
