Market maker

A market maker is a broker that quotes its own bid and ask prices and takes the opposite side of your trade instead of passing it to an external market. It earns mainly from the spread and, in a B-book model, may keep client risk in-house, creating a potential conflict of interest. Unlike an ECN broker, which matches orders against liquidity providers, a market maker makes its own market.
