Forex glossary

Hedge funds in forex

Funds that pool investors' capital and use selected investment strategies, potentially including leverage or short selling. The name does not imply a single strategy or low risk.

Illustrative example

How does it work in practice?

In a fictional hedge fund, three investors contribute 10,000 USD each, forming a 30,000 USD pool before costs. Pooling money and using the hedge fund label do not ensure low risk.

A case to work through

Two labels, two mandates

In a fictional comparison, one fund uses short selling and another holds positions without borrowing capital.

  1. Read both funds' instrument and exposure rules.
  2. Also check charges and redemption terms.

What follows? Do not assign equal risk simply from the shared label.

Example boundary: This does not establish fund eligibility across jurisdictions.

A useful distinction
