Prime brokerage

Prime brokerage is a service in which a large bank lends a fund (e.g. a hedge fund) its own credit standing, giving it access to the interbank market. The fund trades with many banks but concentrates settlement, credit and collateral in a single relationship — with the prime broker, which stands behind every trade. Smaller firms reach the market through an intermediate layer called prime-of-prime.
