Trading journal results calculator

Summarise your closed-trade sample: average net result, win rate, profit factor and a modelled break-even win rate.

Start with an example

40 × 150 USD net wins and 60 × 100 USD net losses give a total sample result of 0 USD, an average result of 0 USD and profit factor 1.

Calculation inputs

Changing inputs recalculates the result. Use account currency for amounts unless a field names another unit.

Closed trades with a positive net result in one sample. Where do I find this input?
Closed trades with a negative net result in the same sample. Where do I find this input?
A result of 0 after all costs. Exiting at the entry price with a commission produces a loss, rather than a flat trade. Where do I find this input?
Mean positive result after commission and financing, in account currency. Enter 0 if there are no winning trades. Where do I find this input?
Size of the average loss after costs. Enter 100 for a result of −100, or 0 if there are no losing trades. Where do I find this input?
Labels the amounts. Changing this currency does not fetch an exchange rate or automatically convert the numbers you entered. Where do I find this input?

How to interpret the result

Results appear when the calculator starts.

Enter results after all costs; they are not deducted again. Exactly flat trades increase the trade count, but are excluded from the win-rate denominator and the modelled break-even win rate. The statistics describe the entered sample, rather than predict future results. With no losses, profit factor has no finite value suitable for comparison.

Calculations run in your browser. A downloaded CSV contains your inputs and results.

How the result is calculated

Sample net result = wins × average win − losses × average loss. Average result = sample net result / all trades, including flat trades. Win rate = wins / (wins + losses) × 100%. Profit factor = sum of positive results / magnitude of the sum of negative results. Break-even win rate = average loss / (average win + average loss) × 100%.

Worked example

Example: 40 winning trades averaging 150 USD net and 60 losing trades averaging a 100 USD net loss. The sample result is 6,000 − 6,000 = 0 USD; average result is 0 USD per trade, win rate 40% and profit factor 1. Adding 20 exactly flat trades gives 120 trades and the average remains 0; the non-zero-trade win rate stays at 40%.

Inputs before results

Where do I find this calculator’s inputs?

You need one consistent sample of closed trades after all costs.

Sample after all costsFictional example. 30 winning trades: 30 × 200 USD = 6,000 USD; 50 losing trades: 50 × 100 USD = 5,000 USD; 20 exactly flat trades: 20 × 0 USD = 0 USD; 100 trades · result / count: 1,000 / 100 = 10 USD. Conclusion: average sample result is 10 USD per trade, including flats in the count. The non-flat win-rate denominator is 80. The sample does not forecast future results.ILLUSTRATIVE DIAGRAM30 winning trades30 × 200 USD = 6,000 USD50 losing trades50 × 100 USD = 5,000 USD20 exactly flat trades20 × 0 USD = 0 USD100 trades · result / count1,000 / 100 = 10 USD

One sample of net trade results

Export closed trades for one defined period. Assign commission and financing to the same trades, convert results into one currency and decide how partial closes will be grouped.

Count positive, negative and exactly zero results after costs. Enter average loss as a positive size, such as 100 for a result of −100. Exiting at the entry price with commission is a loss, rather than a flat result. Do not deduct costs again: this form already takes net results.
