CySEC Regulation
Scope: Cyprus / EU
CySEC is Cyprus's securities regulator, supervising specified market participants including Cyprus investment firms. Permissions and cross-border services must be checked for the particular legal entity. A Cyprus entity's authorization does not automatically cover every group company or every client's account.
Illustrative example
How does it work in practice?
A hypothetical group has a Cyprus entity and another outside the EU. The client's agreement names the second entity, so the group's logo alone does not establish CySEC supervision of that account.
A case to work through
A similar name, different domain
Fictional example: the agreement names A, advertising uses domain B, and the entry found concerns company C.
- Compare full legal name and identification details.
- A mismatch does not establish that C’s entry covers this offer.
What follows? Resolve discrepancies through official channels and registers.
Example boundary: This does not verify any actual firm or establish client protection.
A useful distinction
CySEC Regulation / KNF Regulation
KNF concerns Polish supervision and registers; CySEC concerns Cyprus entities and relevant permissions.
