Position size (lot quantity)

Position size is the number of lots (units of the base currency) you open in a trade. You set it so that the loss if the stop-loss is hit stays within a fixed percentage of your capital (typically 1–2%); it follows from three inputs: the cash amount risked, the stop-loss distance in pips, and the pip value. A wider stop-loss means a smaller position for the same risk.
