Central Bank Meeting Minutes

A summary of a meeting's discussion and decisions. Scope and publication timing differ by institution; FOMC minutes are not a full transcript, and a participant's argument is separate from their formal vote.

Illustrative example

How does it work in practice?

In a hypothetical meeting summary, an argument for a rate rise appears in the discussion, but the formal decision leaves the rate at 4%. That argument alone proves neither that a rise occurred nor that its speaker voted for one.

A case to work through

Two document dates

On a hypothetical timeline, a decision is announced on day A and minutes concerning A are published later.

  1. Record the meeting date and publication date separately.
  2. Compare the discussion with the decision announced on day A.

What follows? Do not record a second rate change merely because minutes appeared.

Example boundary: A new document can provide information without constituting another policy meeting.
