CFD (contract for difference)

CFD (contract for difference) is a derivative in which you settle with the broker the difference between the opening and closing price of a position, without owning the underlying asset (currency, share, index or commodity). It is traded with leverage and lets you go long or short; in the EU, ESMA caps retail leverage (e.g. 1:30 on major FX pairs).
