Stop out
Stop out is a broker's forced liquidation of open positions when the margin level falls to the stop-out threshold — 50% in the EU under the 2018 ESMA rules. Unlike a margin call, which is only a warning (typically at 100%), a stop out is automatic: the broker closes positions starting with the most loss-making until the margin level recovers above the threshold.
