Tilt
Tilt is an informal term for intense emotional arousal that disrupts a trader's consistent execution of a plan. It may follow losses, gains or frustration and involve impulsive orders. It is not a formal diagnosis; assess behavior and rule departures rather than inferring it solely from the financial result.
Illustrative example
How does it work in practice?
In a hypothetical session, a trader reacts to a platform error with three unchecked orders. Their recorded pause criteria are met, so they end the exercise and review the event after regaining composure.
A case to work through
A pre-session criterion
A fictional plan requires a pause after two skipped checks; the participant records the second occurrence.
- Compare the event record with the pre-existing criterion.
- Apply the recorded pause and later-review procedure.
What follows? Do not assess the state solely from profit or loss.

A useful distinction
Tilt / Revenge Trading
Revenge trading focuses on recovering losses; tilt can have other triggers.
