Smart Money Concepts (SMC)

Smart Money Concepts comprises approaches interpreting charts through swing structure, order blocks, FVGs and zones labeled liquidity. Their narrative attributes moves to large participants, but candle geometry does not reveal actual institutional positions or intentions. Tool rules vary; a particular strategy's advantage requires separate evaluation.

Illustrative example

How does it work in practice?

Assume equal highs are marked at 1.1000 before price reaches 1.1010. SMC may label this a liquidity sweep; the chart alone proves neither execution of particular stops nor a bank's participation.

A case to work through

A label is not participant evidence

Hypothetically, two highs are 100; the next high is 101 and close is 99.8.

  1. You can describe a move above the highs followed by a close below 100.
  2. A selected implementation may call it a sweep; the data does not confirm specific stops or a bank.

What follows? State the implementer's definition and observed prices.

Example boundary: SMC has no single rule set; strategy effectiveness needs separate assessment.

A useful distinction

Smart Money Concepts (SMC) / Order Flow Analysis

SMC labels chart structure; order-flow analysis interprets available order and trade streams.
