Exotic Pairs
A conventional group usually pairing a widely traded currency with one from a smaller or emerging economy, such as USD/PLN. Classification varies; the label does not specify a loss, spread or execution terms.
Illustrative example
How does it work in practice?
Assume a hypothetical USD/PLN bid of 4.00 and ask of 4.02 PLN per USD. Buying 1,000 USD costs 4,020 PLN, 20 PLN above its bid valuation, before other fees.
A case to work through
A spread in PLN
Model: USD/PLN bid is 4.1000 and ask 4.1030 PLN/USD; quantity is 2,000 USD, without other fees.
- The price difference is 0.0030 PLN/USD.
- 2,000 × 0.0030 gives a 6 PLN ask–bid difference.
What follows? Compare costs in one currency at specified quantities.
Example boundary: This is a model quote, not a typical cost for this pair.
A useful distinction
Exotic Pairs / Major Pairs
Major pairs are another conventional group; neither label guarantees individual order costs.
